What is a Panchakarma?

Pancha means five Karma means actions 5 action panchakarmaActions refer to the five forms of detox therapy you may experience during a Panchakarma. At Oneworld Ayurveda, you will have an in-depth consultation with our Ayurvedic doctors who will assess your Dosha imbalances and medical condition. The doctors will then prescribe a treatment plan including one or more of these detox therapies depending on your condition and the number of days you are staying onsite. Below we describe the five actions:

  • Vamana – medicine-induced vomiting Oral medicines are given to induce vomiting. This helps to eliminate toxins from the tissues. Especially recommended for Kapha-dominated conditions.
  • Nasya – nasal detox Medicated oil or powder is administered through the nostrils. This treatment clears and cleanses the entire head region and relieves various ailments.
  • Basti – medicated enema Medicated oil or decoction is administered through the anus. Especially effective for Vata-predominant conditions.
  • Raktamokshan – bloodletting Impure blood is drained out through various means such as needle-pricking, venesection, and leeching. Cleanses the blood, either in a specific area or the entire body.
